The Dark End of The Road

The Dark End of The Road

Richard Clapton

Let me tell you ‘bout a friend of mine,
Slipped into the darkness at the edge of the night,
Got more and more and more confused,
In a never ending search for youth,
He turned his back upon an open door,
Went back to the road he’d been on before,
Goin’ round and round in the darker zone,
Till he finally found himself alone,
He slipped away from resolutions,
Kept trying to find easy solutions;
All tangled up with worldly problems,
He’d sneak around like the artful dodger;

CHORUS:
Oh – he got lost on a mountaintop covered in snow,
Goin’ snowblind – lost his soul – running out of time,
Oh – and he’s got so far to go,
Searching for light –
lost somewhere up the dark end of the road.

He used to be a simple man,
With innocence and simple plans,
He had to go and complicate it,
Got bored with life and tired of waiting,
The days of rage seemed never ending,
He’d run and hide keep on pretending,
That everything would turn out right,
He’s steppin’ out again tonight;
The lines were blurred by his confusion,
Torn apart and disillusioned,
All tangled up with worldly problems,
He’d sneak around like the artful dodger;
