Come Summer, She Died

Come Summer, She Died

Rick Miller

Doubt thou the stars are fire
Doubt that the sun doth move
Doubt truth be a liar
But never doubt I love

A snowflake in May as my heart reaches back to the day
A flower in June, have I come back for you too soon?
A storm in July brings the water to the land
A falling star on an August night means the answer is at hand

The moonlight shows on the trees at night
As I walk this lonely path
Your ghost has haunted my heart so long
It’s a tether to the past

So please be gone for I’m not as strong
As the man we both knew
Time is no longer on my side
If I cannot be with you

An eagle flies from the western sky
As an Omen from a dream
It’s meaning now is clear to me
But my eyes refuse to see

So please be gone for I’m not as strong
As the man we once knew
Time is no longer on my side
If I cannot be with you

Come Summer, She Died
