When we finally got past hope
When we found just what we craved most
A place where all the poets torched each other’s work
They swore that you were far too young
Far too young to be this made up
With the serpents tongue and the sophist’s gentle air
But as you move along only look back to watch it burn and then they’ll see
That maybe this is what we’re made of
Broken shards of glass and gasoline
And as you move along only step back to bask in all you used to be
Closed eyes on warning signs, they liked to keep you tongue-in-cheek
As they pass away
They told me not to look away
They told me not to hope they’d stay
They told me all these means were ends
Asked what made me think I was time well spent
Move on just move on we’ll move on until we
Pass away in sheets and lace
Tired minds that never dream
This is the way they feel and the way we felt
